It might cost the Saints a first-round pick in 2009 for tight end Jeremy Shockey, according to Newsday's Tom Rock.
The Saints dealt the Giants a second- and fifth-round pick for Shockey as it stands today. The Saints also traded for middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma with the Jets for two conditional draft picks (one in 2009 and one in 2010).
If Vilma plays in 85 percent of the defensive snaps this season and the Saints sign him to a contract extension, the conditional pick for the Jets in the 2009 draft becomes a second-round selection.
If that occurs, the Jets would take the second-rounder that was originally given to the Giants. The Giants would then receive the Saints' first-round pick in 2010 and the Saints would keep the fifth-round pick.
Moral of the story is that the cost for Vilma and Shockey could potentially be the Saints' first- and second-round picks next year. If the Saints struggle this season it could be a huge price to pay for two former Pro Bowl players both coming back from serious injuries.

The just have to wait until after the summer to resign him AND Loomis has stated there is NO condition under which the Jets get a 2 next year anyway.
